What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a restorative appliance designed to replace one or several missing teeth. They consist of several artificial teeth in a row that are secured in place with either dental implants in the jawbone or crowns placed on the teeth on either side of the gap. Our team will take special care to design your bridge to match the rest of your smile perfectly, making sure that nobody will be able to tell the difference.
Types of Dental Bridges
Which type of dental bridge is right for you depends on your needs and preferences. We can help you determine how to best address your missing teeth after a thorough oral exam and a review of your medical history. We’ll then discuss your options and help you make the best decision for your oral health.
Traditional Dental Bridge
Traditional bridges are secured between two healthy teeth using dental crowns and are typically recommended for patients who have lost at least one tooth. For these appliances to be placed, the teeth on either side of the gap will need to be healthy enough to host crowns, and they will also have to be altered in order to receive them.
Implant Bridge
Implant bridges are usually recommended if you have three or more missing teeth in sequence. A dental implant will be placed in the jawbone on either side of the gap, allowing the bridge to be securely placed without altering any healthy teeth. It will take several months for the newly-placed implants to fully heal and fuse to the jawbone; then they’ll be able to support your new restoration.
The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge
Dental bridges can deliver several key benefits to patients with missing teeth:
- Replacing missing teeth can preserve the alignment of your remaining natural teeth.
- Dental bridges are customized so they are indistinguishable from your real teeth, allowing you to smile with confidence.
- Dental bridges only require the same oral hygiene measures as your real teeth.
- Your restoration can last for fifteen years or more with excellent care.
